First Aid Training Manual Development


Doaba Foundation is a humanitarian organization working in disaster prone areas envisions the “Disaster Prone Communities Becoming Self-Reliant in Pursuit of Their Common Interests”. Doaba’s mission is to improve the quality of life among rural people and, true to its name, concentrates on communities prone to flood disasters. It believes in achieving the goal through optimal utilization of available resources i.e. physical-biological, moral and human. It seeks to build capacity of such communities incorporating even the relief activities into program of preparedness interventions, facilitating emergence of self-reliant communities.
The Project titled “Community based disaster risk management” is being implemented by Doaba Foundation with the financial support of welthungerhilfe. CBDRM committees have been formed under CBDRM project. There is need to enhance community skills, awareness, linkages establishment to equipped communities and make them able to cope up with emergencies in daily life and during disaster too.      
Purpose and Scope of Work;
Doaba Foundation is interested to develop First Aid Training manual. First Aid Training manual is to enhance skills of directly first aid committee’s members and indirect all CBO members on providing aid in case of any emergency at initial level before approaching any physician.  
The manual’s purpose would be to provide clear guidelines, tools, techniques for effectively and efficiently providing first aid. First aid manual will be developed in Urdu language so community can easily understand it and replicate it on their own. Printed manual will be helpful for first aid committee members to refresh training contents in future. This will also beneficial for dissemination of information to illiterate community members as it will also contain pictorial material.   



Key Components of manual would be as under but not limited to;  
·         First aid basics
·         Objectives and importance of first aid
·         Who may be first aider?
·         Human body and its functions
·         Order of treatment priority
·         Types of cuts and bleeding
·         Fractures and dislocation of bones and joints
·         Bandage and its types
·         CPR for adults and children
·         Obstructed airway
·         Angina pectoris and heart attack
·         Every day emergencies and first aid
First Aid manual must include;
·        70% theoretical knowledge
·        30% practical knowledge with daily life examples
·        Pictorial material to elaborate the contents
·        Manual will be in Urdu language
·        Easy words should be use so community may easily understand
Conditions for manual;
·        Consultant/ firm should not replicate already developed manual
·        Manual must cover all contents mentioned in ToR
·        Manual must reflect CBDRM approach
Who can submit Proposals?

Content of the Proposal:
The Consultant / Firm are required to submit a detailed Technical and Financial proposal for Doaba First aid training.
Technical Proposal:
The technical proposal must contain:
1-     Contact person and/or organization name, number, and address
2-     Profile
3-     Proposed Methodology as per TORs
4-     Training agenda and schedule/duration
Financial Proposal:
The Financial proposal must contain i) Detailed Budget and ii) Validity period of the quoted price.  
Submission Procedure:
The technical and financial proposals (could be sent in both- soft via email and hard via post/courier should be sent in sealed envelope.)
Please submit Proposals to:

The last date for submission of proposal is 10 October, 2012.
Proposals received after the submission deadline will not be entertained under any circumstances.

CBEWS manual is to enhance skills of early warning committee’s members and all CBO members so losses of life, infrastructure, livelihood etc may be reduced also threats to life injury may be minimized.
The manual’s purpose would be to provide clear guidelines, tools, techniques for effectively and efficiently establish and run early warning system. CBEWS Manual will be developed in Urdu language so community can easily understand it. Printed manual will be helpful for early warning committee members to refresh contents in future. TORs for vulnerability capacity assessment under CBDRM

Vulnerability Capacity Assessment (VCA)


Doaba Foundation is a humanitarian organization working in disaster prone areas envisions the “Disaster Prone Communities Becoming Self-Reliant in Pursuit of Their Common Interests”. Doaba mission is to improve the quality of life among rural people and, true to its name, concentrates on communities prone to flood disasters. It believes in achieving the goal through optimal utilization of available resources i.e. physical-biological, moral and human. It seeks to build capacity of such communities incorporating even the relief activities into program of preparedness interventions, facilitating emergence of self-reliant communities.
The Project titled “Community based disaster risk management” is being implemented by Doaba Foundation with the financial support of welthungerhilfe. Vulnerable villages have been identified and selected under CBDRM project. There is need to assess risk, vulnerabilities, capacities of the community and villages by using different tools like seasonal calendar, social mapping, hazard mapping, risk mapping, risk assessment formula etc.      
Purpose and Scope of Work:  
Doaba Foundation is interested to conduct Vulnerability Capacity Assessment (VCA) of 20 selected villages. CBDRM bases on concept of disaster risk management which is community based. Before planning implementation of activities it is very important to have knowledge about risk, vulnerabilities and capacities of the selected villages.
VCA report will provide detailed information about villages. This information will helpful for both project team and community. 
Key Components of manual and report would be as under but not limited to;  
·        Basic concepts of DRR & CBDRM
·        Primary data collection from community about living condition and disasters
·        Secondary data collection from district, provincial, national assessment and Doaba foundation reports
·        Disaster historical profile of villages
·        Seasonal calendar (activities of whole year, more focus on DRR) of villages
·        Mapping (Social, hazard, risk)
·        Use of transparencies for mapping
·        By using GIS technology mapping of villages and UC(only selected villages in UC)
·        Risk assessment with the help of formula
·        Consolidated report that must include recommendations to reduce vulnerabilities and enhance capacities of every village
